A High-Quality Play and Learning Space for Mothers and Children by Toyistan
As Toyistan, we designed and produced a dedicated Mother & Child Classroom within the Kocaeli Lotus Mother City Center, offering a safe, inspiring, and multi-functional environment where children can spend quality time alongside their mothers. This space was conceived with a holistic approach that respects the emotional need of young children to stay close to their parents while supporting learning through play in early childhood.
A Play-Based Learning Environment
The Mother & Child Classroom is composed of various activity zones designed to enhance children’s fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, creativity, and social interaction. By combining materials such as wood, plastic, and soft textiles, the space offers a rich, multi-sensory play experience that encourages exploration and open-ended play.
Key features of the classroom include:
Magnetic play areas: Supporting creativity, shape recognition, and color exploration through hands-on activities.
Window-side activity zone: A naturally lit area ideal for individual or small-group creative work.
LEGO and construction wall: Enhancing spatial awareness, balance, and design skills through vertical play surfaces.
Interactive play wall with wooden and plastic elements: Specially designed to allow children to experiment with different materials and mechanics.
Stage area: A platform for storytelling, drama, and group activities that encourages self-expression.
Soft toy and relaxation corner: A calm and secure area for rest, comfort, and imaginative play.
A Safe and Flexible Mother-Adjacent Concept
Designed with a mother-adjacent approach, this classroom allows mothers to comfortably observe their children while remaining within the same space. The open, bright, and minimal design language creates a welcoming and calming atmosphere for both children and adults, supporting flexible use throughout the day.
